Sunday Lunch at Kala

Sunday Lunch at Kala

Sunday lunch at Kala (at 52 King Street) is an unrushed relaxed affair, with plenty of choice to suit all tastes. It’s available as a mix and match menu at £34 for two courses or £39 for three. The wine list is wide ranging, and we opted for a bottle of Monastrell Rosado at £28, although each menu item has a suggested wine to go with it for those who like to vary things and go by the glass rather than the bottle.

We had the chicken liver parfait and black pudding as starters, followed by the cod fillet and confit duck leg, and shared a side of cauliflower cheese. Presentation is good, the quality is excellent, and the quantities are generous.

The parfait was pleasantly creamy and came with some tangy chutney and sourdough toast. The black pudding came topped with seared onions and some new potatoes and looked as it tasted, light and delicate. The confit duck was nicely crispy on the outside and came with a plentiful set of roast potatoes, cabbage, carrot and swede mash, and gravy. The cod was a lighter option and was beautifully cooked combined with creamy mash and broccoli spears.

We shouldn’t have ordered the cauliflower cheese as we couldn’t finish it.

We couldn’t manage a dessert, but perhaps next time.

Post lunch drinks at limited tables outside is a real sun trap and finished off our lovely lunch experience.

Service here is very friendly under the guidance of GM John, and Chef Gary Usher also dropped by tables too.

A note too about the gentle, Sunday vibe created by vinyl guru Daniel on the decks.
