We caught up with Writer and creator Jack Carlin as he is embarking on an exciting project. Here is what he told us;
“My goal with The Party People is to create a truly distinctive comedy series that feels reflective of modern television while telling a story that has not yet been given the space it deserves. At its core, the series explores Ireland’s complicated relationship with alcohol alongside queerness, sobriety, friendship, love, identity and modern adulthood. These themes exist beneath what is ultimately a relentlessly funny story about four Irish friends trying to navigate their early thirties after the lifestyle that brought them together begins to change.
I want The Party People to push the boundaries of what we expect from contemporary comedy. Its characters are queer, but they are not defined solely by their sexuality. Their queerness is an important part of who they are, but it is not the entirety of their identity. The series also opens conversations around substance abuse and alcohol consumption within queer communities, the difficulties and absurdities of modern dating, and the changing political landscape for LGBTQ+ people.
Ultimately, the ambition is for the pilot to become a tangible representation of the television series as a whole. The long-term goal is to attract the attention of a UK television production company and secure the opportunity to develop and produce The Party People as a professional television series, bringing it to a wider audience. The story does not end with Season One. There are currently concepts and character arcs developed across at least four seasons, providing the foundation for a sustained television series and allowing the characters, relationships and themes introduced in the pilot to evolve over time”.
