Waterside continues its commitment to championing LGBTQ+ artists and stories this autumn, with an exciting programme of bold, funny and thought-provoking theatre, led by Hannah Maxwell’s award-winning TURN YOUR F***ING PHONES OFF.
TURN YOUR F***ING PHONES OFF will be at Waterside in Sale from 20 to 22 October, fresh from a total sell-out run at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where it won a Scotsman Fringe First, Bragi Award and The Stage Fringe Five.
Commissioned by Waterside, Hannah Maxwell’s dark, absurd and fiercely hopeful solo show explores human connection in the Information Age, picking apart our relationship with doomscrolling, technology and an increasingly polarised world.
The production received a string of acclaimed reviews in Edinburgh, with The Guardian calling it: “Tremendous… delivered with equal parts fervour and merriment”, while The Scotsman hailed it as: “The perfect way to cut through the endless scroll.”
Its run in Sale exemplifies Waterside’s growing role in supporting LGBTQ+ artists to develop ambitious new work, providing a platform from which their work can reach wider audiences.
