On my first trip to Manchester in 2024, I was cornered in a queer bar and grabbed by a pair of straight men who (after being kicked out) waited for me, then stalked me back to my hotel. Thankfully, I made a Mission Impossible style escape to safety. Even as a fearless 6ft giantess, it was a horrible experience in what I know is a great city. As a woman in comedy, where SA is rampant, I think it is so important to have loud female (particularly diverse) voices platformed, so I’m really excited to take part in WICF while coming back to MCR and fighting back with humour.” – Kat Powell
In “Why Am I Like This?”, “bright new star”, Kat Powell takes audiences on a hilarious and heartfelt journey (interspersed with a little feminine rage) through her upbringing as a neurodivergent, queer kid in a christian family. Biting back at her culture, 00s society, and her choices, Kat roasts everyone she loves, most importantly, herself.
From performing in London’s LGBTQ+ New Comedian of the Year Awards in 2025, Kat’s star continues to grow brighter as she has become a regular face in Scotland’s comedy circuit and the UK roast battle scene, performing in the country’s biggest clubs as a comedian and host of Suck It! Comedy from the gals, gays, and theys.
In spite of looking like she’s put Lucy and Yak out of business, Kat can captivate any audience with her stories of love, embarrassment, adversity and queer joy.
