We found out a little more about Dina Martina soon to perform on Canal St

Tell us about Dina Martina.

Let's see...I’ve been in show business my whole life, if not longer. I have no cartilage in most of my major joints. I love watching yoga. Aside from show biz, I dedicate most of my spare time to various worthy causes like Red Cross, 7-Eleven, Doctors Without Borders, and Gynecologists Without Boundaries. What else?

Is this your first show in Manchester, if so are you excited to perform here?

Yes and no. It's my first time performing here, but I have seen Melissa Manchester in concert several times.

Do you find audiences are different here in the UK than they are in the States?

Yes, UK audiences are height/weight proportionate.

How old were you when you began performing?

I was 4 when my mother entered me into the Little Miss Las Vegas Pageant and I won. I clinched the crown during the talent competition, singing a lovely piece by Beethoven while making yoghurt.

Your costumes are quite something, who designs them?

My dresses are from New York Tent & Awning, and my tights are sausage casing from Oscar Mayer.

Do you have a lover in your life at the moment?

Not presently, no. My most recent boyfriend was an aspiring magician who was always practising sleight-of-hand jobs around the house. I don't remember his name, but his college buddies called him "Reacharound".

You have a daughter, what's she doing now?

Oh she's probably listening to Ariola Grande because that's all she ever does. I'm not a huge fan of her music, but I love her name 'cause it means "big nipple".

Every year you perform on the gay island Provincetown, the gays obviously love you, why do you think that is?

Well they enjoy quality, so there's that...but I also think I really filled the void left when Ethel Merman died.

You've had a very long career, what's the secret of your staying power?

Every five years or so, the audience starts dwindling so I just dress up like someone else and they think I'm a different performer.

If you could duet with anyone who would it be and why?

Lady Bunny, because she makes me sound SO good.

Do you have any tips for good mental health?

Not for mental health, no...but people always ask how do I still look so good after all these years, and my secret's real simple. First off: slow, consistent weight gain. At the first sign of wrinkles, eat a cake and some pizza and things'll smooth out. Also, a diet rich in sodium helps to give my face that "larger than life" look and really makes it "pop".

Will you be voting in the US elections this year?

Yes, I'm hoping Barbie wins.

Has Jennifer Coolidge stolen your look?

Not that I know of. Are we similar? She did come to my show once and we hung out a couple of days after that, so I'm thinking maybe if she has sleep apnea, she may've gotten that from me. I'm not even really sure what movies she's been in. Didn't she play Stifler's pie?
