Superbia Weekend Line Up Announced

We can share the recent announcement of the line up for this years event STARTING SUNDAY.

Superbia, the year-round programme of arts and culture from Manchester Pride, has unveiled its schedule for the August Bank Holiday Manchester Pride Festival (27 - 30 August). 

Superbia, which continues to provide support to diverse creative LGBTQ+ projects across Greater Manchester, has a scheduled line up of free music, dance, film, poetry and performance events for those looking for activities to take part in at the festival. 

The artists will be popping up in venues across Manchester and beyond, to showcase some of Manchester’s incomparable LGBTQ+ talent.

On Sunday 29 August, Superbia will offer a jam-packed schedule of creative projects.

Starting with The Untold Orchestra which will play David Bowie, featuring Finley Letchford-Dobbs with six musicians perform extracts from TUO’s Bowie show with new dance interpretations from Finley Letchford-Dobbs and behind the scenes workshops with young dancers, the performance will start at 2pm and end at 3pm with the location on the rooftop at Seesaw, Princess Street, Manchester. 

Next on the schedule for Sunday is the Superbia Cinema (Day 1), showcasing LGBTQ+ short films with a focus on music and dance, and an intro from one of the filmmakers, the showings will start at 3pm and end at 4pm with the showings being shown at Ducie Street Warehouse. 

To end the day, the Pride Dance will start at 4pm and end at 5pm at Ducie Street Warehouse,  which will include Aria Scere-Jacobs, Yvy DeLuca and Joshua Hubbard performing solo dance work in collaboration with DJs Kiss Me Again. 

Joshua Hubbard is an international award winning contemporary artist originating from Oldham, they are a choreographer/director, performer and Mother of The House of Decay. Notable touring and working with Charli XCX, Brooke Candy, Roisin Murphy, Elton John, Hercules and Love affair.  

Yvy Deluca is a South Asian trans writer and performer. She is the author of Tainted Beauty - The Memoir of an Authentic Creation. PLEASE NOTE THIS PERFORMANCE IS NOW CANCELLED.

In the run up to the weekend, the charity will be partnering with Kampus, who will be showcasing the ‘Freedom, Living Portrait Exhibition’ from Thursday 26 August. The meaningful audio-visual art exhibition of 'living portraits’, will be displayed in and around the Kampus garden for two weeks over the Pride Weekend. 

The exhibition will comprise of 10 beautiful portraits of people from the LGBTQ+ community, which will be accompanied by an audio recording of their story, playable through a QR code. 

Along with the exhibition, She Choir, the collaborative choir for women and non binary people over the age of 18 will be performing in the Kampus garden.

Heading into Monday (30 August), the programme will focus on more creative performances. 

Returning for a second day, the Superbia Cinema will again feature LGBTQ+ short films at Ducie Street Warehouse. 

Juliet Davis: Nature Walk, as part of the Superbia Spotlights commission, will be free to join at 3pm at Chorlton Water Park, the nature walk and performance piece will take place in the green space of South Manchester. 

Running from 12 August to 12 September 2021 and available to join from morning until night, is the Dial-A-Pride-Poem with Maya Chowdry, which offers a selection of special readings for guests to enjoy via their telephone. 

Dial-A-Pride-Poem, the free to join phone line, offers beautiful musings by spoken word artist Maya, on seduction by wild violets, and why nature is not outraged by sex-switching. Callers can simply dial the number and hear a randomly selected work, recited just for them.
