Street food night market to kick-start summer celebrations at Kampus

A night market is coming to Kampus, with indie food traders set to kick-start the garden neighbourhood’s summer celebrations in June.

Thursday 9 June, 6-10pm, Kampus garden neighbourhood, Manchester

Opening from 6pm on Thursday 9 June, the night market will see Kampus buzzing with much-loved artisan brands, packing out the garden and Little David Street for the perfect laid-back summer evening of food, drink and music.

Among the line-up will be Just Natas (@just_natas), purveyors of the traditional Portuguese tarts, Osaka Local (osakalocal.mcr) dishing up Japanese street food, and Bon St Local (@bonstreefood), serving their Afro Brit hot eats among loads of others.

Visitors will also be able to browse and buy work from local print artists and a indulge in creations from the Witch Kinds Rum (@withkingsrum) cocktail bar, all set to live music.

It follows the runaway success of the collab between Kampus and Ancoats Pop-Up, with a weekend day market on the last Sunday of every already drawing thousands to Kampus, opposite Manchester’s Canal Street. The limited run of summer night markets will be staged on Thursday 14 July, 11 August and 15 September.

Alice Longson, of Ancoats Pop-Up, said:

“This is our first ever night market and we’re chuffed to be bringing something new to Manchester’s thriving independent scene. The Kampus garden is a hidden oasis, it’ll be the perfect place to spend a really chilled evening sampling some of the city’s best street food indies and supporting artisan makers. Our monthly weekend markets have proved a hit at Kampus and this is a lovely, limited run for the summer to showcase our city’s best creatives on the, hopefully warm, summer nights.”

Kampus, the rental community developed by Capital&Centric and HBD, is coming alive this summer. Visitors to the night market will also be able to sample Cloudwater and Levanter, part way through their residency at the Bungalow and garden, and Nell’s, proving a major draw for pizza-lovers.

Summer Beer Thing, a three day festival of seasonal, regional and interesting beers from around the world, will also take-over the garden from Friday 24 June – Sunday 26 June.

Adam Brady, of HBD, said:

“This summer feels like a real celebration at Kampus. It’s our first proper summer without social distancing restrictions and we’ve a massive programme of pop-ups, events, exhibitions and openings. With our residents now fully immersed in neighbourhood life, it’s brilliant to be adding more to the experience of what it’s like to live here, as well as become one of the must-visit destinations in Manchester.”

Kampus is a collection of old and new buildings, right next to the famous Canal Street in Manchester’s Gay Village and just minutes from Piccadilly Station. The community is set to become home to some of the North West’s most cherished independent brands, with the likes of Pollen Bakery, Cloudwater Brewery, General Store, The Beeswing and Great North Pie set to locate to Kampus this summer among others.
