Sparkle Weekend returns for 2022

DRAG RACE UK STAR GINNY LEMON HEADLINES WORLD’S ORIGINAL AND LARGEST FREE-TO-ATTEND CELEBRATION OF GENDER DIVERSITY

After a two-year sabbatical due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Sparkle Weekend, the world’s largest free-to-attend celebration of gender diversity, returns to Sackville Gardens in the heart of Manchester’s Gay Village from Friday 8th to Sunday 10th July 2022.

Welcoming everyone from the trans, non-binary and intersex communities, and their families, friends and allies, the three-day event begins with a launch party in Sackville Gardens on Friday 8th July at 7pm, followed by two days showcasing the very best of established and emerging talent from across the wider LGBTQIA+ community.

The line-up includes the star of BBC3’s ‘Drag Race UK’ Ginny Lemon, who will be joined by a diverse range of singers, musicians, comedians, and DJs, many returning from previous years’ events.

The Sparkle Weekend also includes:

Talks and workshops hosted by our charity partner, the LGBT Foundation.

The Family and Youth Zone, delivered in partnership with Manchester Parents Group QAVS and The Proud Trust, including the Positivi-Tea Zone dry space.

Advice on mental and physical wellness in the Wellbeing Zone.

A marketplace featuring trans-owned businesses, grassroots community groups, and representatives from our corporate partners.

The perennially popular Sparkle Ball will once again be held at the Mercure Hotel Manchester Piccadilly on Saturday 9th July from 7pm.

Sparkle Chair of Trustees Vicki Mulligan said; “It’s incredibly exciting to bring the Sparkle Weekend back after two years, with the kind support of Proud@Sainsbury’s, and celebrate the full spectrum of trans and gender expansive lives and experience.”

Lead for Charity and Community workstream for Proud@Sainsbury’s Nichola Young added;
