Madretaqueria to bring adventurous Mexican flavours to Manchester’s Kampus

Madretaqueria to bring adventurous Mexican flavours to Manchester’s Kampus

Tacos, mezcal and tequila are coming to the Kampus garden rental neighbourhood, with Mexican collaboration Madre set to bring an exciting taqueria and mezcaleria to Manchester.

Madre – meaning ‘mother’ in Spanish – will be a laid-back, social hangout, with a menu inspired by the food culture of Mexico City. Using the best of local and seasonal produce, it’ll deliver unadulterated Mexican goodness for the city’s diners, with tacos, ceviche and small platesand is set to open in the Spring.

The brand was born out of a collaboration between the founders of London’s popular ‘Breddos Tacos’ and the team behind Liverpool favourites ‘Belzan’ and ‘Filter + Fox’.Following the success of the first Madre joint at Liverpool’s Albert Dock, their space at the Kampus rental neighbourhood will be their first full restaurant and bar in Manchester, withpunters having sampled their tacos at Escape to Freight Island.

Madre at Kampus will open daily from 11am til late, evolving from a lunch spot andfamily-friendly destination to a buzzing bar with Mexican party vibes as the sun goes down. Visitors can expect an interior inspired by the adobe houses of South America, with earthy, organic tones creating an intimate and warm space.

They’re the latest Kampusannouncement in what is fast becoming Manchester’s most enviable line-up of foodie independents. Taking over a space in Minshull House, the restored Victorian warehouse, Madre will count brands including Cloudwater Brewery, Pollen bakery and Nell’s pizzeria among their neighbours surrounding the lush garden.

Chris Edwards, co-founder of Madre, said:

“Madre is perfect for a party city like Manchester. Taquerias can be pretty raucous, social spaces but at the same time have a family feel, where people come together to share amazing food. We’ll be bringing that vibe to Kampus, with iconic favourites alongside a drinks menu stacked with margaritas, natural wine and local beer. Madre de-mystifies traditional Mexican food, serving up new plates made with top quality local produce and a love for authentic flavours.

“We knew we had to be part of Kampus, we love the heritage building and we’ll be in top company with the other independents signed up.”

Adam Brady, of HBD, said:

“Our neighbourhoodis all about creating connections and a real community of neighbours at Kampus. Madre’s whole ethos is about social dining, an inviting space where friends and families can share stories as well as delicious food. They’re a perfect match for our growing family of independents. With more people calling Kampus home and a stacked summer of events and openings,2022 is already looking like an epic year for the neighbourhood.”

At Kampus, residents can choose between one and two bedroomrental apartments in the beautiful red-brick new buildings North and South Block, refurbished 1960s brutalist tower called The Stack or two Victorian shipping warehouses, Minto & Turner and Minshull House.

Those moving in also have access to a brand new gym with free weights, cardio and core equipment and a yoga studio, a 24 hour concierge service and amenities from dog walking, dry cleaning, PT sessions and yoga, a private cinema, lounge, dining room and a number of terraces.  Residents can move into their brand-new apartment with no deposit to pay.
