LGBT+ History Month in Stockport

A few local organisations have come together to collaborate on a programme of events. They include Stockport Pride, Stockport LGBT+ Plus, Stockport Forward LGBT+ and Stockport Libraries.

Throughout February the month includes discussions, quizzes, crafts and opportunities to socialise. Speakers during the month include LGBTQ+ youth homelessness charity Albert Kennedy Trust, HIV charity George House Trust and Rainbow Historian Author Gill Rossini.

OUTing the Past will be returning to Stockport Central Library – sharing stories of LGBTQ+ hidden histories.

The Chairperson of Stockport Pride's organising committee, Stephen Bowyer, said that "the LGBTQ+ community has a rich and interesting history, that many people may not be aware of, and we’re using the month to educate and celebrate."

Collage Design Event

Aimed at bringing people together to create a collage featuring moments from the Past, Present and Future of LGBTQ+ peoples struggle for equality.

The collage will be featured during the annual LGBTQ+ Pride event.

LGBTQ+ Community Panel Discussion

A community panel discussion, starting with a panel of speakers, then splitting into smaller focus groups and finally coming back together to share what has been discussed. The topic of the discussion a question: What can the LGBTQ+ community come together to try and help achieve and or create?

Speakers include Stockport LGBT+ PLUS, Forward Stockport LGBT+, The Albert Kennedy Trust, BiPhoria, The Proud Trust, LGBT Foundation and Sparkle.

It is a quiz about LGBTQ+ people’s history.

LGBTQ+ People and Politics

It is a discussion around three questions: Why is it important for LGBTQ+ people to participate in politics? How can LGBTQ+ people participate in politics? What could they work together to try and help achieve?

We aim to have a few speakers then an open discussion.

OUTing The Past

Featuring four fab speakers sharing LGBTQ+ hidden histories, both online and in person. It's accessible and there will be refreshments.

Living with HIV

Saturday 26th February 2022 at 10:00am

Stockport Central Library, Wellington Road South, Stockport, SK1 3RS

This will be a discussion about living with HIV. Speakers will include The George House Trust and the LGBT Foundation.

The event will be split into three parts, the first two parts will be each speaker, speaking for up to 30 minutes then a Q&A session with that speaker for however much remains of the 30 minutes. The rest of the time will be an open discussion.

LGBTQ+ History Discussion

Saturday 26th February 2022 at 2:00pm

Stockport Homes, 2 Edward Street, Stockport, SK1 3NQ

This will be a discussion about LGBTQ+ history and what it can teach us, the discussion will be opened up by author Gill Rossini, followed by an open discussion.
