Initiative Arts is Looking for Participants and Volunteers

Jez Dolan and David Martin working as Initiative Arts are working with the National Lottery Heritage Fund to deliver Legacy of ’67.  In this project we want to capture the stories of LGBTQ+ people who were young adults in the ‘60s and ‘70s.  In 1967 the law in England and Wales changed to partially decriminalise homosexual acts between men.  This led to a major change for some people and had no effect at all on others.  If you were a young adult then, did this affect your life – if it did, how?

We’re interested in talking to men, women and trans people who were around at the time.  Your stories will be recorded for posterity in Archives+ at Manchester Libraries and will be the subject matter for a specially commissioned play, an exhibition, and a walking tour of the city.

We also want to recruit and train a team of volunteers to capture these stories of before and after the Sexual Offences Act of 1967, recording the social and historical impact of this legislation.  We will be offering training in oral history techniques towards the end of April.

If you’d like to get involved, details can be found on our website: https://www.initiativearts.co.uk/legacy-of-67.html or e-mail david@daviddolanmartin.com
