Big Angie comes to the Gay Village

Comedian and writer Kevin Barry Brannigan brings his Edinburgh Fringe triumph ‘Big Angie: Me, the Polis & the Priest’ to the Cockatoo Club. Big Angie, known to her thousands of followers as Glasgow’s Big Darlin’, is ascending rapidly in the comedy world with sell-out shows all over Glasgow and Edinburgh, and a BBC Scotland viral sensation with her critically acclaimed video ‘Beauty and the Beef.’

Kevin Brannigan grew up in the East End of Glasgow, overcoming many obstacles as a young gay man which he has channelled into Big Angie who, like Kevin, ‘always felt like an outsider – although a fabulous one!’ Kevin and Big Angie are currently embarking on a sold-out multi-community tour with Glasgow Life Presents before coming to strut her stuff along Canal Street and landing on her perch in the Cockatoo Club! Kevin says ‘Big Angie’s buzzing to be coming to Manchester, she’s following the Yellow Brick Road and the rainbow’s nowhere brighter than it is in the colourful Canal Street.’ Then in March Big Angie is playing two nights in the IMAX theatre at the Glasgow Science Centre, as part of Glasgow International Comedy Festival 2024.

Rick Fulton, Showbiz Editor, Scottish Daily Record: “Kevin Brannigan has created a character that will be up there with comedy icon Rab C. Nesbitt.’

Steven Canny, Executive Producer of Comedy at BBC Studios said: “Big Angie is a big star doing brilliantly with a massive and wide-ranging audience across BBC Scotland social outlets. Angie will be playing big stages for years to come, and I can’t wait to see what chaos she creates on TV and social media as well.’’
