50 years is a new play from James McDermott

A new play that explores two same sex relationships from very different era's.

One couple met five decades ago outside prison on the night homosexuality was partially decriminalised in the UK.

The other couple met five months ago on gay dating app Grindr. I wrote Fifty Years to interrogate how society’s changing and unchanging attitudes to homosexuality in the last five decades have affected gay men’s relationships with themselves, each other, the world, sex and love.

LGBT playwright James McDermott wrote Fifty Years as in a world that sees resurgence in concentration camps in Chechnya for gay men and LGBT rights undone by President Trump, the assertion celebration and exploration of gay male identity in culture has never felt more urgent, political or necessary.

James previous LGBT plays include 'Fast Food' starring Jude Law (Lyric Gala; Lyric Hammersmith), 'Man Hug' (Out/Stage/Us; Hope Mill Theatre) and 'Rubber Ring' (The Lowry; UK tour) which I'm now adapting for TV with Hat Trick Productions.

Tickets for the performances can be booked via below
