Sonata Piano & Cabaret Lounge
What a wonderful city Manchester is.
Just when you think that it has enough bars, restaurants and hotels, with so many bureoning pockets in NQ, Ancoats, New Deansgate and of course our own Gay Village, something very different opens that really isn't to be found in any of these areas.
Welcome then to SONATA CABARET BAR.
Having recently opened its doors just off King St with a formula of small tables and booths enjoying full table service serving Champagne, Gin Cocktails and small, delicious cheese platters, Sonata offers a very different experience right in the heart of the city.
The dream of owner/operator Dale Basset has designed this classic live music lounge with its bespoke sound system and a small stage complete with baby grand piano.
Dale commented "Well the time has finally come. After 18 months of very hard work, a lot of sweat, a few tears and yes a little blood, Sonata Piano & Cabaret Lounge is now open. My family and friends have given me such fantastic support, especially my life partner with special thanks to Michel Pollard aka Polly"
Dale has also managed to assemble a small, talented group of managers and servers, who all provide efficient and friendly service both at the small, well stocked bar and of course at table.
The main attraction here is undoubtedly the lineup of live, established performers and last evening we were treated to West End Chanteuse ALEX YOUNG accompanied by the super talented Tom guest on piano.
Her small set drew on the musical theatre reportoire, with a strong sense of comedy and at moments evoked palpable pathos.
The second half, saw JACK WOODHEAD also a very talented performer.
Having flown in from his residency in Berlin, Jack has an act difficult to categorise.
Fully 6 ft 8 in his large platform Black heels, he tells us that having trained to be a classical pianist, his growing personal desires led him in a different direction and his semi drag persona was born.
We were further treated to 30 minutes of witty anecdote, original song and exemplary piano playing.
Jack returns to Sonata this Saturday for a full show and then again on July 16th. Check out availability here
