946: The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips

Imagine being told to leave your home…

Imagine American soldiers occupying your house and land…

Imagine being 12 and angry, with only a cat to tell your secrets to… This intriguing story opened at Home and we were there..

946: The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips

Following last year’s sell-out performances of Dead Dog in a Suitcase (and other love songs), Kneehigh return to HOME with 946: The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips. This thrilling production is based around Operation Tiger - the little-known D-Day landings rehearsal of 1944 at Slapton Sands, Devon.

In true Kneehigh fashion, the tale is told through music, puppetry, imaginative staging, slick direction and versatile performances. Katy Owen deserves special mention in her poignant, and often hilarious, portrayal of Lily. However, this is a true ensemble piece and credit must be given to every member of the talented cast, who play a multitude of roles and instruments.

Adapted by Michael Morpurgo (the author of the original children’s book) and Emma Rice (Artistic Director at Shakespeare’s Globe), this is a gripping example of family (7 years +) theatre. From the opening notes of the onstage blues band to the shocking and emotional outcomes, we are led on a fascinating, fast-paced journey.

Yes, this is a family show that made children squeal with delight, but this is also a treat for all us grown up children (who laughed equally as loud). You don’t need to take a child to enjoy the evening. You will want to adopt Tips. An evening of pure genius – don’t miss it!
