Sunday lunch at Lock 84 in The Reach hotel on Ducie Street is a nice gentle affair, and it was a pleasant surprise to see they did a Sunday roast (the menu doesn’t feature online), unusually offering lamb which is quite a rarity these days.
Seated in a lovely window table over looking the Canal lock which lent it’s name to the restaurant, we opted for a bottle of the Antonio Rubini Pinot Grigio Rosato. Nicely chilled but not over so, and very quaffable.
We both started with the chicken liver paté which came with rhubarb compote, salted butter and plenty of sour dough toast. Very acceptable.
Next we had the Lock 84 lightly battered haddock, full of flakey meat accompanied by a pea and mint puree and I opted for the lamb, and again, there was plenty of it. Extra gravy was also provided. The roast potatoes had a nice crunch to them, whilst being fluffy inside, just the way I like them.
We couldn’t manage dessert and opted instead for an extra glass each of the wine.
Service from Annie was relaxed and friendly and the bill came to £52.50 each, including service, after the Canal Sreet discount at 20% off.
A real nice visit and highly recommended for a celebratory bite or just a good old catch up.
