A former Stockport resident is making a rare return visit from her home in France to attend Stockport Pride, of which she is a sponsor, on 1 June 2025. She’ll be giving a talk at the Stockroom on Saturday, 31 May at 10.30am.
Lesley Krier Tither was born in Nantwich but moved to Hillcrest Road, Offerton, at the age of two when her late father, John Krier Tither, became editor of the Stockport Advertiser.
The family stayed in Offerton when he took over as editor of the Wilmslow Advertiser.
Lesley attended Offerton C of E Primary School (St John’s) then Stockport High School for girls. Her late brother Peter also attended St John’s then Stockport School, Mile End Lane.
Lesley trained in journalism at Harris College, Preston, before working on several local newspapers, starting with the Stretford and Urmston Journal, principally as a court and coroner’s court reporter.
Lesley’s late mother Nell continued to live in Offerton until she became incapable of living alone, at which time Lesley and her brother decided to take her to live in the Auvergne region of France, where Lesley still lives.
Writing has always been her passion as well as her profession. At the age of 16 she sold a storyline for a popular TV Western series to an American production company. Her father joked at the time that she was paid more for that then he had ever received for a single piece of writing.
Largely because of her background, her favourite genre has always been crime fiction. She has now released 22 books in her Ted Darling Crime Series, under the pen-name L M Krier, all loosely based on the Stockport of her youth.
She has also published a 6-volume travel memoir series, the Sell the Pig Series, under the name Tottie Limejuice, as well as a book for all ages 7-70+ entitled The Dog with the Golden Eyes.
Lesley is also the person behind the pen-name Carl Granger, author of the gritty crime thriller ‘Looking for Lulu.’ Lesley explained that she wrote it in response to readers who said they could always tell a female writer behind a male name. Nobody guessed!
Lesley says: ‘I retain a great fondness for Stockport and always enjoy my visits there. I am particularly excited to be appearing at the new Stockroom. I had my first ever library card from the central Library at age seven and have been an avid reader ever since.’
