Peel Park Pink Picnic
The LGBT community will once again be painting the park pink on the 26th July for this year’s Peel Park Pink Picnic. The Peel Park Pink Picnic is Salford’s largest LGBT community event open to all and is now back for it’s fifth year. Among many of the highlights of this year’s extravaganza will be live performances on the main stage from “Everybody’s Free” hit artist Rozalla and 80’s sensation Hazell Dean. The event will also feature music by Gaydio and Mint Dj Mark Jones, festival stalls and activities for kids.
The free event was set up in 2011 with the aim of promoting equality and diversity, whilst building community cohesion by bringing people together for an enjoyable day of entertainment and activities in the park. Last year more than 1,500 visitors attended the event, which incorporated a main stage, a beer tent, festival stalls, children’s activities as well as many other attractions.
This year’s event will see special live performances from Hazell Dean, Rozalla, pop rock band No Idea, as well as performances from jazz band Gifford, Roxy Hart and the Lady Bears of Leeds. Building on the success of last year’s Pooch Pageant the competition will be back again to find the best-dressed dog. A bouncy castle, go-karts and a petting zoo will keep children entertained throughout the day. Guests will also be able to visit a great selection of expo stalls in our partner tent, as well as our beer tent and food vendors. On the day, we will also be looking for the best pink-themed picnic for our Campest Picnic Competition. Extra points are always awarded for going over-the-top!
This year event will take place on the 26th July from 12pm to 7pm in Peel Park, The Crescent, Salford, behind the Maxwell building of the University of Salford. For further details about the event, please visit www.peelparkpinkpicnic.org.uk
