New Vada show

VADA LGBTQ Community Theatre Company, MANCHESTER—18, 20 & 21 February 2013

The UK’s pioneering LGBTQ theatre company present a new anthology of short plays, ‘Love +
Other Calculations’, to celebrate the LGBT History Month 2013 theme of maths, science and
engineering.

Written and produced by Manchester’s LGBTQ community, the plays explore the histories and
potential futures of LGBT people in the UK. It includes a diverse range of stories including a
reflective portrayal of John William Polidori, Lord Byron’s personal physician, and the tragic tale of
a psychotherapist forced to refer his male lover to gay aversion therapy. Lightening the mood is a
comedy in which a female scientist discovers the cure for baldness with the help of her girlfriend.

‘Love + Other Calculations’ is being performed at the Three Minute Theatre, Oldham Street,
Manchester on 18 February, and at the Castle Hotel, Oldham Street, Manchester on 20 and 21
February 2013. The show starts at 7.30pm, and tickets are available on the door. See VADA’s
website for more information.

Stephen Hornby, Artistic Director of VADA, believes its essential for the LGBTQ community to look
back and celebrate our history: “LGBT History Month is a fantastic opportunity to discover things
about ourselves that we never knew, to unearth forgotten stories and celebrate heroes no one else
will cheer.
This year’s showcase also looks forward with science in mind, to possible futures we
must embrace or guard against. It’s an intriguing, bewitching and sometimes very funny show. ”
VADA offers fantastic opportunities for members of the LGBTQ community to discover and develop
their theatrical skills and is a non-profit organisation. Anyone who defines themselves as lesbian,
gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning are welcome to join. VADA was established in 1996
and produces two shows a year.
