Diversity awards for Bolton Pride

Diversity awards for Bolton Pride

Bolton Pride is a three-day festival which is now in its second year. Over the weekend there will be 6 events which celebrate all things LGBT as well as deliver a strong hate crime message. Part of that line up is the Diversity Awards dinner at the Bolton Whites Hotel on Friday Sept 23rd.

Last year 250 people including the legend that is Sir Ian McKellen and Coronation Street star Antony Cotton came together to celebrate seven award winners. The

winners were those who had championed equality and LGBT rights, they included Nick Buckley from Bolton College and Detective Inspector Charlotte Cadden. The night was a great success and this year Bolton Pride Ltd have rebranded the event and wheels are in motion to make the event bigger and better than last year.

The Bolton Pride Diversity Awards shall be made up of seven awards, five of them shall be nominated and voted for by the public and two special accolades which shall be nominated and voted for by last year’s winners and the Bolton Pride team.

The two special awards shall be named after two very important people. The Sir Ian McKellen Award shall be presented to the individual or organization that has served Bolton’s LGBT community with passion and dedication. The Darren Batey Award shall be awarded to that community hero who excels in volunteering and charity work.

Last year both Sir Ian and Darren has a massive impact on Bolton Pride. We were thrilled to have Sir Ian at the dinner and we know that he is a massive supporter of Bolton Pride. Darren Batey was a vital part of last year’s festival. He brought key skills, amazing energy and a true love for volunteering. We tragically lost Darren just before Christmas and in his memory The Darren Batey Award shall now be a part of our annual awards dinner.

As well as these two awards there will also be the following five awards:

Organisation or Charity

Business

Youth Diversity Champion (Up to 21)

Adult Diversity Champion

Outstanding Contribution Award

We are looking for the public to nominate contenders for these categories. Maybe you work for a business which champions diversity. Maybe your child has raised an amazing amount of money for charity and maybe you would like to nominate a charity that has changed your life. The nominations close on August 6 th and you can visit the Bolton Pride website to nominate or click here.

Once the nominations are in we will then release the voting procedure. This year the Diversity Awards shall be hosted by Tower FM’s Jon Holling and there shall be performances from The Birdcage Manchester, Jordan Gray (The Voice UK) and International Whitney Houston tribute (Ikenna). Tickets for the Diversity Awards dinner are on sale now and you can purchase them from the Bolton Pride website.
