Mozart at The Stoller Hall
Concert of Mozart pieces with Manchester Camerata, Pianist Jean - Efflam Bavouzet Coducted by Gàbor Takàcs - Nàgy
To the lovely spacious light Stoller Hall, anticipating an evening of delightful Mozart in the most perfect setting with the best acoustics and not disappointed.
The concert began with the Quintet for piano and wind instruments K452. We were informed that this style of piece is unusual and Beethoven wrote a similar one 12 years after this was written, influenced by his admiration of Mozart's original piece. It was lovely, very delicate and quite captivating, each instrument was able to play solo and it was very interesting hear them both separately and as a quintet.
The following two pieces were Piano Concerto No 15 in B flat major and Piano Concerto No 16 in D major with the full orchestra, conducted by Gàbor Tàkacs - Nàgy, who introduced the pieces and a little about Mozart and his thoughts on the impression he wanted to create with the music, one of joy and engagement with the playing. He is a very charismatic gentleman who had the audience captivated and clearly there is a strong bond of friendship between himself and Jean - Efflam, the pianist.
The music was absolutely delightful, played with such skill and evident enjoyment by the orchestra. The conducting was full of energy, joy and enthusiasm and a total pleasure to both listen to and watch, as was the pianist.
The audience was greatly appreciative and called the pianist and conductor back for several bows, which they clearly greatly enjoyed. Much laughter and happiness evident everywhere.
Another wonderful evening of enjoyment from Stoller Hall. Cannot recommend an outing here highly enough. All the staff are charm itself and could not be more helpful. The environment is modern and spacious with a relaxing and welcoming feel.
