We explore a city tour with a distinct difference
Invisible (Manchester), a social enterprise that trains people who have experienced homelessness to become walking tour guides of the city centre. Our aim is to challenge the stigmas that surround homelessness by enabling those who are the most marginalised in society to share their story - we give them a platform for their voices to be heard. As a social enterprise, 100% of our profits go back into supporting the homeless community in Manchester.
One of our tour guides, Laura, is a transgender woman whose tour explores the history of inspirational Mancunian women who have influenced her journey of transition.
Laura’s powerful tour opens people's mind to the ideas, challenges and stories about strong women, Manchester’s LGBTQ+ history and homelessness.
Her passion for the city's female culture and history is infectious. She truly celebrates the rich past of our radical feminine history by linking the history of women or of a particularly notable woman at each stop. The highlight of the tour is when she delves into stories about Emmeline Pankhurst and the Suffragette movement. Laura’s powerful tour opens one’s mind to ideas, challenges and stories about strong women, Manchester’s history and homelessness.
