Santa doing rehab in Manchester this July

Santa doing rehab in Manchester this July

The world’s most recognisable stand-up – is he the real thing, or another otherwise unemployed actor between Santa gigs? –

will be at the Kings Arms Theatre in Salford with Grotto: 60 minutes of zeitgeist-rattling, award-winning, naughty-list entertainment this summer.

That’s the set up for some fierce character comedy by the critically acclaimed writer and performer Terry Victor – a jolly, white-bearded, fat man who has definitely danced like a bear in the dark side of the grotto. This show is “unseasonable, unreasonable & unsuitable for brats” – Ho! Ho! Ho! – and it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas will never be the same again.

“Grotto feels like the sort of show the Edinburgh Fringe was invented for; something a bit unique, memorable and bizarre.” Starburst Magazine.

Grotto won great reviews and the ‘Show Chugger’ award at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2023. Now Grotto is part of the Greater Manchester Fringe.

“The performance was dynamic and made us feel part of something exciting and special.” The Audience Club

Terry is a professional actor and writer. His credits include the West End, Oscar-nominated and Bafta-winning movies, and many murders on the Orient Express. Then he found himself playing Santa. Terry says, “Grotto is the result: an absurdist kiss’n’tell in hybrid stand up drag.” Which sounds a bit like it’s up its own diverse chimney, but does make some kind of sense when you see the show.  This Santa is a troubled mix of punchlines and meltdown: audiences can expect drag, rap and outrageous name-dropping.

"Terry Victor is magnetic [...] great performance, great writing, darkly funny, audience in palm of his hand." Grotto Preview Review
