Gay walking group celebrates 20th birthday

On a Sunday in June 1998, the first walk of Out on Sunday, a North West-based gay walking group took place in Heaton Park, Prestwich. The group has been walking every year since and is marking the anniversary with a return visit to the park this month for a walk and celebratory afternoon tea.

The group offers walks to the LGTB+ community and their friends most Sunday's throughout the year. Walks, lead by members, are usually about 5-6 miles long and often include a pub or tea-shop stop. The walks are social events and a chance to chat and catch up whilst getting some excercise and fresh air too.

Recent walks have included Blackpool to Fleetwood, Lymm, Chester and the Ribble Valley.  The group organises an annual walking weekend and has been to Coniston in the Lakes this year and Llandudno, Warwick and Ludlow in the past. Each Christmas, the group get together for a celebratory meal with on average 35 members joining in the festivities.
