Review: Death Drop at the Lowry

Review: Death Drop at the Lowry

Death Drop ticks a lot of boxes. There’s murder, there’s drag queens, there’s musical numbers and of course there’s comedy. Death Drop isn’t going to win a Tony award anytime soon but it will please anyone who is a lover of camp and the many iterations of drag race.

The show boasts an all star cast of Drag Race alumni including Willam, Raja O’Hara, Vinegar Strokes and Karen from Finance. The story sets our protagonist on Tuck Island in 1991 to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Princess Diana and Prince Charles disaster free marriage. Over the course of the evening the guests and staff are murdered. With the island battered by a storm and the only bridge to the mainland cut off the attendees must figure out who is committing these most heinous crimes.

As far as positives go Willam and Vinegar were my personal standouts. In terms of comedy they were the funniest and Willam is by far the most seasoned of these queens. She certainly can knock out a musical number. Vinegar portrayed the hilarious Lady Von Fistenberg, Vinegar is evidently well settled into this role. I can see why she received rave reviews during her West End debut.

When it comes to the comedy it’s always important to state that comedy is subjective. Whilst toilet humour and on the nose jokes aren’t my cuppa lambrini I can certainly appreciate that the surrounding audience were having a good time. If you’re a fan of camp and a satirical look at the murder mystery genre I’m confident this will float your boat.

Death Drop is touring the UK now. Get yourself a ticket if you’re in the mood for something different.
