Insane Animals by Bourgeois & Maurice at Home Mcr

Insane Animals by Bourgeois & Maurice at Home Mcr

The world is in peril, humanity’s very existence teeters on a knife edge but fear not because alien siblings Bourgeois and Maurice are here. How will they save us I hear you cry? By taking us right back to the beginning to understand the human condition from the first ever story about King Gilgamesh from Mesopotamia obviously.

I’ve been lucky enough to see Bourgeois and Maurice before with their two-person cabaret show but this is on a totally different scale. You get the impression they have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time and it is truly deserved. Our dynamic duo were awarded this commission by HOME way back in 2017 and since then they have written a show which condenses all their talent and then lets it explode onto the stage.

The supporting company and band are brilliant. There are no standout stars as they are all wonderful but a special mention must go to Lockie Chapman who caught us unawares during the comedy mayhem to bring an incredibly powerful emotional arc to the show with an amazing solo spot.

However Bourgeois and Maurice remain the central stars of this show and let’s not forget it. Their ease on stage and with the audience is great. Fans of their satirical cabaret won’t be disappointed; we may be taken back centuries but the script is still jam packed with their barbs to modern society, to encourage us all to have another look at life but through the glittery eyes of Bourgeois and Maurice.

Fans old and new will be pleased with the songs they present to us as well, “Gay for You” is worth the price of admission alone but there are many more to feast on.

There are tons of surprises in this show and I would never spoil them so I will simply say that you need to experience this for yourself. It is running at HOME until 14th March and if you can grab a ticket, I can’t recommend this show highly enough.
