Benidorm on tour

Benidorm on tour

After 10 years as a TV favourite, Derren Litten has penned a new tale of woe and hilarity for a live theatre tour bringing the lives of the Solana staff to the stage for the first time. Continuing from the end of the final episode we find the hotel threatened with closure and the staff facing unemployment. But who is the undercover hotel inspector who will decide their fate?

This sun-soaked drama - Benidorm Live - brings a host of recognisable faces to the Palace Theatre stage. So much affection felt as, one-by-one, we greet six of the regular TV cast with rapturous applause: Mateo (Jake Canuso), Jacqueline (the very saucy Janine Duvitski), Liam (adorable Adam Gillen), Sam (Shelley Longworth – what a voice!), Hot pants Kenneth (Tony Maudsley) and the glorious Joyce Temple-Savage (Sherrie Hewson), alongside Neptune’s very own resident vocalist - Asa Elliott – and a host of supporting staff and guests.

Mark Walters’ excellent set design immediately takes us to the world of the Solano; the staging is fast-paced and slick. This panto in the sun full of innuendo, good old fashioned seaside humour, with surprisingly high production values and a great cast that ensure a night of huge hilarity. It’s all very silly and OTT, but what a great evening; I haven’t laughed so much in a long time - loved it, and, if the standing ovation at the end was anything to go by, so did the rest of the packed auditorium. Rumour has it they’ll be moving onto the big screen next – can’t wait!
