Wish you were here
Manchester Day is an annual event that celebrates everything great about the city. It is a day for families, residents and visitors to get together and celebrate all things Mancunian that have helped Manchester to become one of the world’s most iconic cities.
The theme of the 2013 Parade is ‘Wish You Were Here’, a celebration of place, people and identity.
This year the Manchester Prairie Dogs take you down to Rio in a blaze of colour led by a 16 foot Carmen Miranda Come on down and do the conga! and shake your maracas.
The parade starts 2pm in Castlefield down Deansgate and straight by the town hall. Hope to see you all there on Sunday 2nd June 2013.
Last year over 45,000 people enjoyed the sunshine and watched the parade as it snaked its way through the city centre. Some 2,400 people participated in the parade, including 90 Manchester charities, community groups and companies that brought alive the theme, ‘The Sky’s The Limit’, with a captivating carnival atmosphere. A host of fantastical creations and captivating stories delighted the crowds.
From a giant air hostess, a superhero baby and a giant runner, to winged creatures and planes, groups from all over the city let their imaginations loose on the theme. Samba dancers, brass bands and bagpipe players helped entertain the crowds as the city was flooded with a sea of colour and noise.
