20 Stories High presents a bold and unflinching look at sex, sexuality and religion for young people in 21st Century Britain
Inspired by the real life stories of the young people of Liverpool WHOLE follows the live of Holly, who has had a tough childhood, spending a period in care and coping with her Mum’s mental health issues. She is surviving though, with the support from her friends Dylan and Chantal, but when her sexuality comes into conflict with her religion – things begin to get complicated.
Created in partnership with 20 Stories High youth theatre and young actors company Whole shines a spotlight on three friends as they come of age in 21st century Britain, attempting to reconcile religious beliefs, a quest for fulfilment and an understanding of sex and sexuality.
Julia Samuels, co-artistic director of 20 Stories High says:
‘About 50% of our young actors company have moved to the UK from Africa and many hold deep-rooted Christian beliefs. Our conversations highlighted the challenge these young people face when presented with the more liberated sexual views of non-religious young people – trying to reconcile their beliefs while fitting in with their mates can be a tricky balancing act.’
Thu 28 Mar, 8pm, £10/6. Over 13s.
