Arek Hersh, MBE, author of A Detail of History, was sent to the concentration camps when he was just eleven years old. All of his family were killed but somehow he survived. He saw the worst ever atrocity that man has inflicted on his fellow man. He and the other survivors were liberated by the Red Army in 1945. He couldn't bring himself to discuss his experiences publicly until 1995.
David Thomas is a bestselling novelist and journalist. He has written a series of highly successful thrillers under the pen name Tom Cain. His latest novel, Ostland, explores the hunt for a serial killer in Nazi Germany. The book also explores the forging of the new empire the Nazis called Ostland, and the emergence of the Final Solution.
David and Arek will be exploring the holocaust from both sides, the killers and the victims. Ostland asks how a seemingly decent man who never demonstrated any racist sentiments could be responsible for killing Jews on an industrial scale. Arek saw it happen.
This will be a rare chance to meet a survivor.
