War Horse returns to Lowry

Salford all set for War Horse return: Audiences get second chance to catch The Lowry’s biggest-selling show

Wed 23 July - Sat 20 September 2014

The Lowry is preparing for the return of the biggest-selling show in its history next month – as the National Theatre’s UK tour of War Horse arrives back in Salford.

The award-winning adaptation of Michael Morpurgo’s beloved novel, which sold more than 114,000 tickets for performances in Salford over Christmas, will return for a nine-week run this summer from Wednesday, 23 July to Saturday, 20 September 2014.

The cast of 35 actors and 23 puppets will perform a total of 70 performances during the 56-day run. Tickets are priced from £18 - £53 (+booking fees).

Julia Fawcett OBE, chief executive of The Lowry, said: “War Horse has already secured its place in Lowry history thanks to its record-breaking first run over Christmas 2013.

“The Lowry is the only UK venue the Olivier-winning production is playing twice in this, its first ever UK tour. That’s something we can be incredibly proud of as an arts venue - on top of, of course, the very real economic benefits that come from hosting a production of this scale, which will be a highlight of the region’s cultural and tourism offering this summer.”

Chris Harper, producer of War Horse for the National Theatre, said: “We were overwhelmed by the enthusiastic reaction of audiences at The Lowry during our first visit with War Horse, and the entire company is excited to be returning to the North West this summer.’

As part of The Lowry’s commitment to accessibility, there will be a captioned performance 28 August, a signed performance on 6 September and an audio described performance on 13 September (all 2.30pm matinees).

There will also be a post-show Q&A with members of the creative team behind the show for ticket holders of the evening performance on 11 September.
