The Cava Queen

The Cava Queen

HOT off the press, the debut novel by Amanda Cross is being launched at Taurus on Canal Street on Sunday 13th May. The cava will flow as Amanda will be speaking about her new book, The Cava Queen, which took her seven years to finally finish, and signing first edition copies.

The Cava Queen is written under her pen name of Amanda Meheux. The book was first conceived in 2004 when she spent two years living in the cosmopolitan seaside town of Sitges in Spain. Amanda says: “It is my story interspersed with high levels of embellishment and imagination. Some events are true and some are not. ‘Trust me, there are some things in that book, I would have LOVED to have done!”

Amanda says: “The Cava Queen is the story of Alex Chapman, a television lifestyle guru who is single and determined to remain this way. She is quite happy bobbing along with all the other flotsam and jetsam in the backwaters of D-list telly, presenting a makeover show called ‘Sort Your Life Out’.

“On the eve of Alex’s 40th birthday her life hits an unexpected watershed and she is forced to acknowledge that maybe it’s time she took a little of her own ‘life changing’ medicine. Fate lends a hand and she ends up in Sitges, a little town near Barcelona. Sitges is 24/7 party central – with fiesta mad Catalans, bitchy old drag queens and more trolley dollies than cava corks.”

She says my initial elevator pitch for The Cava Queen was: “A single Shirley Valentine meets Sex and the City with a sequinned splash of Priscilla Queen of the Desert. It’s been described in many ways by readers since, one of my favourites was ‘feel good with life coaching – avocado for the soul’. In fact the term ‘feel good lit’ is one I’m happy to run with, if you can make people laugh and think – surely that’s a good thing?’’
Amanda says: “The Cava Queen is the ideal beach read. Why not come along, buy the book for £7.99, have it personally signed and raise a toast with a little glass of cava? Rude not to really!’

The book launch will be at Taurus, 1 Canal Street, Manchester, M1 3HE, on Sunday 13th May from 3pm. TaurusbarFB  FOR UPDATES.
