Team Taurus Take on the BUPA Great Manchester Run in Support of The Lesbian & Gay Foundation

Canal Street Bar Taurus are running in the BUPA Great Manchester Run on 26th May in aid of local charity The Lesbian & Gay Foundation (LGF), urging others to join in support.
Taurus, a community-led bar, is based in the heart of Manchester’s gay village and are putting forward ten people to be part of ‘Team Taurus’. They are running in the BUPA Great Manchester 10k Run, one of the running calendars biggest events which last year saw over 40,000 people take to the streets of Manchester, many in support of their favourite causes.

‘Team Taurus’ hope to raise £3,000 which will go towards The Lesbian & Gay Foundation’s work supporting lesbian, gay and bisexual people throughout the region
including face-to-face counselling, a national helpline, a befriending scheme; a sexual health programme, (including community testing clinics and the largest free condom scheme outside of London); anti-homophobia projects in schools; a substance-misuse project; a regional magazine outnorthwest, plus an extensive range of guides and resources.

Claire Baldwin, Volunteer Manager, comments “The LGF have a great relationship with Taurus; we are so grateful for their support in running the BUPA Great Manchester Run. As two Manchester based organisations, it is great for us both to have an involvement in this ever-popular run.

"The money raised is much needed and will go towards continue delivering more direct services to lesbian, gay and bisexual people than any other organisation of our kind in the UK.”

For Polly, Taurus co-owner, running in the BUPA Great Manchester Run is a personal challenge too; “This time last year I had had the first operation on my ankle which left me wheelchair bound for 6 months and I put 2 stone on in weight. At one point it was doubtful whether I would walk again. I want to take part in the run to celebrate my weight loss and achievements.”

He goes onto say “I may have to hobble the last few kilometres, but I am determined to finish it!”

As well as taking part in the run and raising money for The LGF, Taurus have offered pre-race bananas and a post-race event, with a free buffet for all 25 ‘Team LGF’ runners.
