Manchester Pride announces a SUPERB  new cultural events programme for 2015

The charity, Manchester Pride has launched a new cultural programme of activity that will run throughout 2015.

Deriving from the latin word, meaning Pride, Superbia aims to offer a diverse programme of events that celebrate LGBT culture in the city, including, art, theatre, music and comedy.

Mark Fletcher, Chief Executive of Manchester Pride, said: “We wanted to reinvigorate and build on our cultural offering for this special anniversary year. Manchester is home to an abundance of vibrant LGBT and relevant cultural activities and presenting them under our new Superbia banner is the ideal platform to bring them together and reach new audiences.”

Trailblazing events kick off with Superbia’s partnership with Queer Contact Festival, running from 5-15 February at Contact on Oxford Road, and include British soul sensation David McAlmont and music partner, pianist Guy Davies making a welcome return to Manchester to present Fingersnap Live; the UK premiere of Love is Crazy – a Valentine’s concert celebration from New York cabaret star and Tony nominee Justin Vivian Bond; and a day of short films and in-conversations from over 25 guests working in the media at the Queer Media Festival.

During the Spring, Superbia supported events include Jonathan Harvey’s epic Beautiful Thing staring Charlie Brooks at The Lowry in April (including a post-show discussion with cast members) and in May the annual Sexuality Summer School for post-graduates, which will be curated by The University of Manchester with a series of splinter events at venues including Contact.

Many more events and activities will be added through the year along with the annual Pride Fringe programme in August, leading up to Manchester Pride Festival’s Big Weekend 2015, which runs from Friday 28th until Monday 31st August.
