RENT THE MUSICAL IS SET TO ROCK THE DANCEHOUSE THEATRE MANCHESTER

Musical Theatre students from Blackpool and The Fylde College are set to stage the biggest performance of their lives in their final year graduate show, the Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning rock musical RENT.
The show will be a culmination of three years of hard work and will see the students perform in front of producers and agents and potentially packed houses, as they bid to begin their careers in show-business.
The production will take place at the Dancehouse Theatre in Manchester from Wednesday 15th – Friday 17th February 2012.

Set in the early 90’s, this ground-breaking musical depicts a life-changing year, in which a group of extraordinary friends - young artists and musicians, struggle to survive and create in New York's Lower East Side. It tells a passionate, heart-breaking and ultimately uplifting story of love, life and friendship, where boy meets girl, girl meets girl and boy meets boy. All played out against a backdrop of bohemia and under the ominous shadow of a new and deadly threat – a disease called AIDS.

To lead such a challenging production, the College has brought in established actor and director Alan French who has enjoyed professional success in television and film, as well as theatre.
Clearly excited by the venture, Alan said, “The College has gone all out to bring West End production values to this show with a live band, stunning set and a cast of 30 actors, singers and dancers.
The standard of training is easily as good as, if not better than work that I have seen in the top London drama schools. I am passionate about showcasing the wealth of home-grown talent in the North and after all, historically Blackpool has always been associated with theatre and entertainment and these talented young students are delivering performances  that are every bit as good as anything I have seen in the West End ”
RENT is presented by final year BA (Hons) Musical Theatre students at The Dancehouse Theatre, Oxford Rd, Manchester from Wednesday 15th – Friday 17th February 2012. Evening shows at 7.30pm. Pre-booked tickets cost £7.00 (£5.00 concession) or £10.00 on the door.
