Queer Contact Launches for 2014
Each February, as part of LGBT History Month, Contact brings you a festival of events featuring the best performance, music, spoken word, and theatre from emerging artists and the best of UK and international talent. 2014 marks Queer Contact’s fifth birthday and our biggest ever festival – with nine days of shows, workshops, debates, club nights and events.
LGBT History Month 2014 is dedicated to music and Contact are delighted to be hosting internationally renowned musicians, with performances from Joey Arias and Opera North and The Tiger Lillies, opening and closing the festival; and in-between there are appearances from UK festival cabarave sensations My Bad Sister (who’ve toured with The Pet Shop Boys) and club nights featuring Off The Hook, Pop Curious?, Bollox, Tranarchy and The Sisters Gorgeous. Also, a dance and music celebration of the art of Vogue as The House of Suarez brings its Vogue Ball to Manchester for the first time.
Elsewhere in the programme, renowned author and poet Jackie Kay joins young writers in a celebration of the written word; Elly Barnes discusses the issues facing LGBT young people; three local theatre companies come together to shine a light on human rights abuses in Russia, on the opening weekend of the Sochi Winter Olympics; and Comedy Playground returns with acts including Craig Hill and Zoe Lyons.
