Polari - Canal Streets latest venue
Polari is a gay thing and so are we!
Here at Polari we are a little haven away from the madness, where quality and service are what we strive to give. No dance music or pop instead we will have a live pianist and vocalist with a classical/jazz theme depending on the night you come.
Polari is a member's bar you can email polari@live.co.uk for membership and add polari canal st on facebook.
The time comes in every gay's life where a nip and tuck and a bit of botox is needed and now it is Via's time.
We will not be changing the theme of Via but will be improving on what has always been successful and creating a new cocktail bar area with more space and new toilets. A whole new way we do entertainment with a new stage and DJ stand and lots of new food offerings.
Why Polari?
Polari is a gay slang language, which has now almost died out but not for much longer. It was more common in the 1960's when gays had more need of a private slang look how far have we come.
Polari featured heavily in the "Julian and Sandy" sketches on the BBC radio program "Round the Horne" in the late 60's. This is how a lot of people first heard of Polari and a few words such as 'bona' and 'Vada' are still in use today.
Via's door policies...
We like others are investing in our Gay Village and we will still be a straight friendly GAY venue and we will be continuing with our policy of No Fancy Dress and No Bunny Ears we do not cater for Hen Parties or Stag Nights because after all we are a gay space in the gay village not Blackpool seafront.
