Oldham LGBT Events Group

The newly founded 'Oldham LGBT Events Group' is already hard at work planning for Oldham IDAHO (International Day Against Homophobia) on May 17, and of course the now very well established Oldham PRIDE, to take place this year on Saturday July 30.

For IDAHO there will be an event held at Gallery Oldham, immediately after the poetry performances by Dominic Berry. (1pm to 3pm)

The Oldham LGBT Idaho Event will start at 3pm and continue until 4:45pm.

With Guest Speakers, Arts & Crafts and a final Free Oldham Performance of SHOW ONE! by Pink Triangle Theatre, not to mention a few surprises, the events group is set to host a full, informative and entertaining afternoon of activities.

Paul Burgess of Oldham LGBT Events Group and Pink Triangle Theatre said;

"We are very excited to be a part of this new group and intend to raise the profile of LGBT people and issues within the town.  IDAHO and PRIDE are two very important ways of doing just that"
Despite being invited to an event in January to highlight issues and pre-launch LGBT History Month, it has to be said that not one single School in Oldham attended, and considering the 'Prevalence of Homphobia' surveys carried out by the NUT and their damning results, we felt this to be completely unacceptable"

Once again this event for IDAHO on Tuesday May 17 is open to all, and we urge Schools in the area to send representatives and get on board with tackling these issues."

Oldham PRIDE is set to be the biggest and best yet.  Now in its seventh year, we already have some great acts booked for the day, including the fabulous ROWETTA as our headline act who will be opening the days entertainment.

The voice on the renowned 1989 track “Reach Out”, which has been sampled by many, including Black Eyed Peas (Boom Boom Pow), Cheryl Cole at the Brits on Fight For This Love, Steve Angello & Robin S (Show Me Love) and Todd Terry’s Lime Life (Baby Can You Reach)

The female singer with Happy Mondays for 10 years, singing on all their hits, and touring the world.
She played herself in the Michael Winterbottom film 24 Hour Party People

Rowetta re-entered the spotlight in 2004 was the last woman standing on the 1st series of The X Factor.

Rowetta presents her own radio show on Gaydio 88.4fm

A new version of “Reach Out” featuring Rowetta and mixed by Mobin Master reached number 1 in the Beatport Charts for 4 weeks.

Rowetta has been appearing at selected dates with Peter Hook (Joy Division/ New Order) as part of his Unknown Pleasures tour, with an EP 1102 / 2011 - Peter Hook & The Light feat Rowetta set to be released on May 9th on Hacienda Records.

Please feel free to share this email with your friends and colleagues, and do please attand the IDAHO event on May 17, especially if you have not seen SHOW ONE! before.

We are particularly interested to hear from anyone who may wish to speak at our IDAHO event, your information, expertise or simply your personal story of experiencing Homophobia could help many others.

To reserve your seats or discuss the event in more detail please respond to this email, or alternatively call Paul Burgess on :07932 928134
