Bogus ‘Village’ Jobs
In recent weeks, job adverts have been appearing on several websites and at the Job Centre, looking for Bar Staff. Quoted wages are very high for the sector and information given is very sketchy.
Candidates are requested to contact the ‘employer’ directly on mobile numbers, and the address given for the job location is ‘38 Canal Street’. The company quoted as behind the venture is ‘Wingman’ with contact names of ‘Stephen King’ and ‘Alex’.
This company and these individuals do not trade, and are not due to trade from this, or adjoining premises. An investigation is now underway by the Job Centre and the Police, after young guys who applied for positions were asked to meet outside the Canal Street location, only to be taken to other venues for ‘interviews’ and ‘drinks’.
It is not yet clear, the reason for these adverts and meetings, although the suspect nature of situation has sparked GMP to become involved.
The current owners of what used to be ‘Tonic’ Bar, the new owners of what will be ‘Oscars’ Bar, and the owners of ‘The Le Ville Hotel’ and ‘The Universal Language Centre’, have no connection with any of the individuals or companies mentioned above or the jobs advertised, and they are providing help to the investigations.
Anyone who has concerns after providing personal details, following applying for a position, OR, has any information that may help GMP and the Job Centre, is asked to contact them directly.
