Normal Heart premiers
Premiere of long awaited film version of The Normal Heart was watched by 1.4 million viewers on its debut night in the US this week.
AIDS drama starring Mark Ruffalo and Matt Bomer is fifth most-watched HBO film since 2010
It took nearly 30 years for Larry Kramer's landmark play The Normal Heart to be made as a movie and 1.4 million people tuned in to watch it Sunday (25 May) on HBO.
The film, directed by Ryan Murphy, first aired at 9 pm and was watched by nearly 1 million viewers. A second airing immediately after garnered 435,000 viewers.
According to Deadline, the film starring Mark Ruffalo, Matt Bomer and Julia Roberts ranks fifth among the 17 HBO films to have premiered on the network since 2010.
Kramer's autobiographical The Normal Heart tells the story of the early days of the AIDS epidemic in New York City. It also stars Taylor Kitsch, Jim Parsons, Joe Mantella and Alfred Molina.
