New home for Poptastic
Poptastic, one of Manchester’s longest running alternative club nights, is moving venues having found a new home in legendary Canal Street venue, Cruz 101 with extended opening hours until 5AM each week starting next Tuesday 8th August.
Known for being the place to be on a Tuesday night, Poptastic’s move follows the departure from AXM nightclub where it spent 2 years providing an unbeatable soundtrack - spanning the 90’s to present day - for mid-week partygoers - which it has been doing throughout Manchester for the past 21 years.
John Hamilton, founder of the event - otherwise known as Mr Poptastic said “We are excited that Poptastic and Cruz 101 are joining forces so we can continue to provide Manchester with legendary, alternative clubbing. “
“Poptastic is renowned for showing the diversity of the Manchester nightlife having done so for nearly a quarter of a century. Since it began, Poptastic has been a way of life for LGBT communities across the UK and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.”
Founded in 1996, Poptastic lives by ‘it’s a indiediscoelectrohomomadhiphopbritpop
funkykindashagtasticqueerthing’ – a mantra that highlights the eclectic nature of the alternative space that the Tuesday night spectacular provides. Since it’s inception, Poptastic has been given rise to some of the biggest names on the LGBT circuit including the likes of Danny Beard - who wowed judges on 2016’s Britain’s Got Talent where he reached the semi-finals of the competition.
Poptastic has been a staple of Mancunian nightlife for 21 years – of which it will celebrate it’s birthday over the Manchester Pride weekend (Saturday 26th August) with their biggest party to date in ‘Pop In’ (venue formerly known as View by the Canal) featuring; a drag queen runway and the return of the ‘shagtag’ – a unique Poptastic system which allows clubbers know if someone else in the club would like to get to know them.
