Meet Sue Shtewi

In the complex area of peoples sex lives, emotional intimacy and physical relationships, a range of talking therapies exist to help you work through your sexual difficulties.

Counsellor Sue Shtewi tells us about her history and how she can help ease your personal anxieties.

"I have had what some people would call a checkered career!

This has involved working as a Community Nurse on a Health Team, as a Counsellor at the Sexual Assault Referral Centre at St. Mary's Hospital in Manchester, counsellor at the Docs Surgery when it was on Canal Street then to Bloom Street, Psychosexual Counsellor at Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport, Cheshire, Family Planning & Sexual Health Nurse at Stepping Hill Hospital, and now for the past ten years working as a Counsellor/Psychosexual Counsellor and hypnotherapist at Beechwood Cancer care Centre, Adswood, Stockport, two days a week, with individuals who have a cancer diagnosis, carers and bereaved carers.

My therapy covers all areas of problems including vaginismus, dyspareunia, relationship problems, anxiety and stress, self esteem, relationship problems, couple work with my co-therapists. I am also trained in EMDR for post traumatic stress which can help also with many underlying issues.

My interest in transgender/gender dysphoria grew as a result of my MA in Counselling Studies at the University of Manchester, and I undertook my research in this area. I had amazing help and insight from the transgender community and the challenges they face, for whom I'll be eternally grateful.

I have worked for many years with individuals who are gender dysphoric, exploring the psychological and emotional well being of my clients.

I receive referrals from Transhealth in London, and until his leaving in 2017, Dr Richard Curtis, for many years. Self referrals, General Practitioners and other professionals and friends of friends.

I offer consultations by telephone, enquiries by email. I have a friendly and personable approach. I can offer appointments in Manchester and Cheshire to suit you, evenings and weekend appointments or during the day.

Client Pamela says;

"I am very sure that everyone’s journey is different but that there are common threads and common needs. Mostly what we need is someone being there for us, someone who helps us make sense of the challenges and reinforces our confidence. I think Sue is that very rare breed of therapist who truly believes and for whom it can never be just a job."
