Matt Alber at Pop

California's handsomest balladeer, Matt Alber is back in Manchester performing live, Friday August 1st at Backdoor @ Pop, 8PM (doors @ 7PM. £10 cover on the door.)

 Fans of Rufus Wainwright &John Grant are right at home at Matt's concerts, including recent sold out shows at New York's Lincoln Center and Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow.

"Most of my songs are about some boy who either broke my heart or is busy stealing it. It serves me right, I suppose - I keep it right there on my sleeve."

And it serves him well on the stage, indeed. Alber's voice welcomes and melts his audiences all at once, and invites them to laugh and weep with him as he takes them on a musical journey few dare to embark on. His concert is mixed bag of original songs and classic covers (Whitney Houston, Sir Elton, Imogen Heap) switching easily from guitar to piano. Never the diva, Alber's American charm sails through his unfailing vocals, leave the boys breathless.

Matt was first invited to sing in Manchester in 2012 by two fans-turned-friends (Robert & Hormoz) who host an underground house salon concert series with a legendary line-up. Fresh off the boat from Provincetown's Bear Week, this marks Matt's first public concert in Manchester, presented by Bear World Magazine who featured him on their cover last Summer.

Says Alber on stage fright: "If you know any single beardy gingers, please send them along won't you? They always seem to put me at ease."
