Mancunian Way support Manchester Pride

Mancunian Way was created out of the ashes of the Manchester riots in the summer of 2011 to stop the next generation from making the same mistakes that a small minority did that evening in our city centre.

Nick Buckley, founder and CEO, spent a decade working for Manchester’s Crime & Disorder Team and specialised in stopping young people from making poor choices, as well as reducing antisocial behaviour across City. After the riots, Nick took voluntary redundancy and set up the charity to work on the streets with young people so ensure they had the knowledge and confidence to make informed positive choices that improve their own lives.

This project is called Stay Safe and has won a handful awards due to its frontline approach and amazing staff team. The project builds relationships with young people in the neighbourhoods of greatest need, at the times of greatest need, and support young people to take the opportunities available in this wonderful country.

They do not tackle the warm and fluffy issues, but rather the social issues which will have the biggest impact on individuals and the wider community.

We will be working in partnership again this year with Manchester Pride over the Big Weekend to ensure all young people who come to the city centre are safe and know how to keep themselves safe. The Big Weekend attracts many young people from all over Greater Manchester and further afield, not all are ‘street wise’ and some find themselves engaging in risky behaviour, drugs or alcohol. Our role is to ensure they make positive choices and reduce their risk of becoming a victim or in harm’s way.

Manchester Pride is the only Pride event in the UK that has safeguarding experts on the streets preventing harm.
