Manchester Pride 2016 Headline Acts
With the weekend looming we take a look at the weekends main stage highlight acts.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Friday 27th August 9PM
In January 2014, Sophie Ellis-Bextor – who'd scored six UK top 10 singles by that point - released Wanderlust, an album full of baroque chamber pop and experimental flirtations with folk.
The sudden shift away from the disco and dance of old was seen as risky by many, including Ellis-Bextor herself. She needn't have worried; it subsequently crashed into the UK top 5, spent three weeks inside the top 10 and went Gold.
Katy B - Saturday 28th August 9.45PM
The versatile London, England-based Katy B (aka Baby Katy, Baby Katie), a dance-oriented electronic pop artist inspired by the likes of Mary J. Blige, Faith Evans, and Gwen Stefani, earned notice with "Tell Me," a 2006 single produced by DJ NG. A series of other features followed, including lead turns on Jelly Jams' "I Try," Geeneus' "Good Life" (a cover of the late-'80s Inner City house classic), and the Count & Sinden's "Hold Me."
Will Young - Sunday 29th August 9PM
Following on from the huge success of his critically acclaimed album '85% Proof' which went straight in at Number one on the UK Official Album Chart, as well as a live tour, The Big Weekend welcomes the multi-million selling, Brit Award winning singer-songwriter Will Young to The Main Stage.
Heather Small - Monday 30th August 8PM
M People had massive hits in the 90s including ‘Moving On Up’, ‘How Can I Love You More?’, ‘Search For The Hero’ and ‘One Night In Heaven’. The band won the Mercury Music Prize in 1994 and won the 'Best British Dance Act' at the Brit Awards in both 1994 and 1995!
Groove Armada - Monday 30th August 11PM
For nearly two decades Groove Armada has been established as one of the planet's best loved and biggest selling dance acts. As comfortable on the big stages as they are in sweat soaked basements, the boys cross genres and styles with ease.
