Are you looking after your wellbeing?

With World Suicide Prevention Day yesterday and World Mental Health Day next month we take a look at the importance of looking after your wellbeing, which is especially important for LGBT people.

Statistics reveal that LGBT people are still at greater risk from suicide and mental health problems compared to heterosexuals. LGB people are twice as likely as heterosexual people to have suicidal thoughts or to make suicide attempts.

Many experience homophobia, discrimination (one in five LGB people experienced a homophobic hate crime in the last three years) and even live in fear of punishment just because of their sexuality.

Yet there is help at hand. The Lesbian & Gay Foundation have a national helpline, offer face to face counselling, groups such as our new art class, a befriending scheme, a wellbeing clinic, a pop-in service and advice surgeries.
