LGF schools win

The Lesbian & Gay Foundation’s Safer Schools Packs have been named as one of the winning projects in the NatWest CommunityForce initiative.

The Safer Schools Packs were one of the top three projects voted for by the public in the Manchester Central area.

Now, we can provide 300 more Safer Schools Packs to support schools in challenging bullying, supporting lesbian, gay and bisexual young people and promoting understanding across communities.

The 300 packs will go out to Greater Manchester Secondary schools in time for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Trans History Month, which means that by February over 825 packs will be in schools across the UK.

Paul Martin, OBE, Chief Executive of The Lesbian & Gay Foundation said: “We would like to thank everybody who voted for the Safer Schools Packs in the CommunityForce initiative, and to NatWest for providing much needed support to smaller projects.

Our schools packs provide schools with vital support, resources and signposting to help all their young people feel safer and supported in school, and to aim high and achieve.

The late Roger Crouch was an important part of the Safer Schools Packs; he made a film for the campaign last year on the horrible impact homophobic bullying had on his family, after his son Dominic (15) took his own life.

Roger passed away at the end of November, and we want to take this opportunity to dedicate the 300 packs that are due to go out, and all the packs that are being used in schools right now, to Roger and the anti-bullying work he started.

The Lesbian & Gay Foundation is determined to continue to make schools safer in Roger and Dominic’s names.”

In 2012, the campaign continues and The LGF is committed to getting as many Safer Schools Packs as possible into UK schools for LGBT History Month in February and beyond. Individuals and organisations can still donate at www.lgf.org.uk/schoolspack
