LGBT sports timeline

In celebration of this year’s LGBT History Month, which in this Olympic year has a focus on sports, a 12 month project to capture the detailed histories of our local LGBT sports groups and clubs to create a comprehensive history timeline was launched at Taurus last Friday.

All Northern LGBT sports groups and clubs are involved and are supported by the North West LGBT group of UNISON the Public Service Trade Union, Northern Wave, the UK LGBT Sports Network, Pride Sports and Canal-St .co.uk., the completed project will be presented during next year’s LGBT History Month.
 
As Trevor Burchick MBE, Chair of Northern Wave, explains:
 
“This valuable project offers the North’s LGBT sports groups a unique opportunity to make sure each Club’s history is recorded completely and accurately, so as to inspire future generations of LGB and T sporting people to build an exciting future sporting future for generations to come”. 

The Northern project is being led by Trevor Burchick MBE and supported by Unison. Local Lgbt sports clubs / groups will each be invited to bring forward their clubs recorded history to ensure accurate documenting of all the fantastic Northern Lgbt sport clubs achievements. We will have a double sports history stall at Manchester Pride, where we will encourage the recording of history on a timeline board (with pens), promote lgbt sports and the UK LGBT Sports Network. The project will run till next Lgbt History Month Feb 2013 - theyearbof the 3rd World Outgames in Antwerp.
