Anti Hate Crime in Sackville Gardens
LGBT Foundation are once again hosting a Hate Crime Vigil in Sackville Gardens in Manchester’s Gay Village to commemorate International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) on Tuesday 17th May, 6-7pm at Sackville Gardens.
This is an opportunity for our communities to come together and commemorate those who have been the victims of hate crime. This year’s theme is on mental health and wellbeing and a variety of speakers from the LGBT community will be sharing their experiences. Music will be provided by one of the UK’s largest LGBT choirs, Manchester Lesbian & Gay Chorus (MLGC). Confirmed speakers so far are Human Rights Activist and LGBT Equality Advocate Aderonke Apata; Sarah Evans, Creative Director of Art with Heart; Body Image and Eating Disorder Advisor Daniel Perry; and Paul Martin OBE, Chief Executive of LGBT Foundation.
Everyone is welcome to join us at the event, where we will be holding a minute’s silence for people to reflect and lay flowers on the Beacon of Hope. Groups and organisations are very welcome to attend the event wearing their uniform/kit as a show of solidarity with the community.
We’re also looking for volunteers to support the event from 5pm so if you’re interested in helping then please email: charlotte.cooke@lgbt.foundation or for information about the event, please contact jen.lau@lgbt.foundation
