First for GHT
George House Trust are proud to
launch Positive Radio!
Positive Radio is a fantastic project which will see George House Trust work with people living with HIV to produce pre-recorded radio programmes. These programmes will eventually be transmitted on the internet later this year.
Many media industry professionals, including those from the BBC, Gaydio and ALLfm have already committed time and resources to volunteering on the project. From assisting with training, to offering studio space and promoting the project.
The creator and lead volunteer is Paul Graham, a trustee of GHT. Paul has worked extensively in the media from writing to producing and presenting radio programmes for BBC Radio Manchester. As Paul says, “Radio is a great medium where people can have fun, get to know others and learn essential skills that they can carry with them into their own life. Positive Radio will also provide information for those who are living with HIV in isolation who think they are on their own, or can’t seek help the conventional way.”
There are two primary aims for the project. Firstly, to promote self-confidence and give motivation to those who are volunteering on the project. Transferable skills will be taught and exciting ideas realised as content for future programmes will be led by those that are affected.
Secondly, the content of Positive Radio will be of interest to HIV positive people throughout the world and will be a way of reducing any senses of isolation that some people may have.
Subjects for programmes will include round table discussions about treatment, stigma, sharing diagnosis, family reactions and problems at work. Other programmes will feature health professionals talking about the latest HIV treatments, problems and successes etc. There will the chance to record a personal diary or podcast for inclusion. Positive Radio aims to broadcast via internet radio from around August.
